Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Workers Social Security Agency (BPJS Ketenagakerjaan/BPJAMSOSTEK) is committed to facilitating social security for online taxi drivers categorized as non-wage earners (BPU).

"We know that online transportation drivers have high risks for work accidents in Jakarta. In regions, the risk is crime-related," Assistant Deputy Director of Jakarta region BPJAMSOSTEK Zayn Setiadi explained here on Wednesday.

Setiadi said in case of a work accident, one of the benefits that workers can get is unlimited treatment costs that are based on medical needs through hospitals that cooperate with BPJAMSOSTEK.

In cases of death, the heirs can receive death compensation (JK).

Meanwhile, the commitment of the Jakarta region BPJAMSOSTEK to facilitate social security for online transportation drivers was proven by a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signing between BPJAMSOSTEK and an online transportation service provider firm on Wednesday.

"With this collaboration, if there is a work accident that causes death, then the (workers') children must be able to continue their education," Setiadi remarked.

According to data from BPJAMSOSTEK, in 2022, the number of work-related accidents in Jakarta reached 4,351, while 4,497 deaths were recorded.

The amount of compensation provided by BPJAMSOSTEK for work accident security (JKK) benefits is Rp236 billion and Rp209 billion for death compensation (JK).

Furthermore, in 2022, some 8,799 children in Jakarta received scholarships, with a total value of Rp37 billion from the agency.

Setiadi remarked that as of October 4, there were 571,457 active BPU participants, from the targeted 912 thousand participants for the Jakarta area.

"Our target is 912 thousand participants, and only (around) 571 thousand participants have been reached. Insya Allah (God willing), it will be achieved by year-end," he stated.

Moreover, he sought support from all parties and stakeholders to work together to register their informal workers into the BPJAMSOSTEK program.

"We do not dismiss any criticism in terms of improving the service of participants," he stated.
