Manokwari, Papua Barat (ANTARA) - The National Population and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN) is aiming to make two villages in West Papua province models of quality family villages in 2023.

According to the agency's deputy head for population control, Bonivasius Prasetya Ichtiarto, the two villages with a high chance of becoming pilot villages are located in Manokwari and Raja Ampat districts.

"There will be one village from Manokwari, namely Mansinam village, and for Raja Ampat, we will oversee the villages until they deserve to become pilot villages," Ichtiarto informed on Wednesday.

He said that in 2023, the BKKBN will try to foster 68 villages across Indonesia, as part of the implementation of Presidential Instruction Number 3 of 2022 concerning optimizing the implementation of quality family villages, by involving at least 13 ministries and institutions.

Ichtiarto assured that the agency is planning to directly monitor and evaluate programs for quality family villages. The results will be communicated to Vice President Ma'ruf Amin by the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture.

The report will cover ministries and institutions that fail to carry out their roles and programs for building quality family villages, he added.

Besides BKKBN, several institutions and ministries are involved in the quality family villages program: the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Villages, Development of Disadvantaged Regions, and Transmigration, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Religious Affairs, National Police (Polri), and Indonesian Defense Force (TNI).

"The most responsible party in each village is the Regional Planning and Development Agency (Bappeda), the Family Planning Regional Apparatus Organization (OPD KB), the Health Service, and the Community and Village Empowerment Service (DPMK)," Ichtiarto emphasized.

He said he will also ensure that the success of the quality family village program creates a mini Indonesia with several features—health, education, tranquility, peace, and happiness.

There are approximately 83,800 villages in the country, and only 17,800 quality family villages have been formed since the launch of the program in 2016 by President Joko Widodo, Ichtiarto pointed out.

According to head of the West Papua BKKBN Representative Service, Philmona Maria Yarollo, there are a total of 400 quality family villages in the province, with each district and city having at least 13 quality family villages.
