To this end, Armuji met with Swedish Ambassador to Indonesia Marina Berg at the Surabaya City Hall, East Java, on Thursday to discuss mass transportation cooperation.
"We have Trans Semanggi Suroboyo and Suroboyo Bus that serve various routes and have become the pride of city residents," he said.
In addition to public transportation, energy conversion from fossil fuels to electric power must also be strengthened to bolster efficiency and keep pace with technological development, the deputy mayor said.
"This (city) administration's vision on sustainable development, among others, is related to strengthening environment-friendly and affordable public transportation," he informed.
Meanwhile, the Swedish Ambassador to Indonesia Marina Berg said that the cooperation between Sweden and Indonesia has been established for a long time, and can be seen from the presence of many Swedish industrial companies in East Java.
"The cooperation between the governments of Sweden and Indonesia began 100 years ago. Our today's visit with the delegation is to (carry out) cooperation in public transportation," she added.
During the meeting, Armuji and Berg explored the potential for urban transportation cooperation, especially in the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system.
The city is planning to integrate Suroboyo Bus, established in 2018, with other modes of transportation, such as the train service.
Based on information provided on a government website, the Surabaya city government has also been focusing on spatial planning and preparing infrastructures, such as roads and sidewalks, to support modern and sustainable city transportation.
In 2022, the Surabaya city government and the Surabaya Transportation Office will improve the feeder bus service that is planned to serve routes to villages and residential areas.
