Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Health Office of Jakarta is collaborating with the central government to investigate the emergence of a mysterious acute kidney disorder among children.

“We are collaborating, synergizing between central (government) and regional (government),” head of the Jakarta Health Office Widyastuti said here on Friday.

According to her, collaboration is needed because the disease is a relatively new one for both parties.

In addition, the Health Office is also collaborating with hospitals regarding the emergence of the mysterious acute kidney disorder, especially in conducting a joint investigation.

Widyastuti asked hospitals in Jakarta to stay alert and inform the Health Office if they are treating children with symptoms of acute kidney failure.

She also asked parents to ensure that their children drink enough water to prevent the disease.

In addition, she appealed to parents to encourage their children to follow a clean and healthy lifestyle.

According to the Jakarta Health Office, the early symptoms of mysterious acute kidney disorder include fever, cough, runny nose, diarrhea, and vomiting.

The advanced-stage symptoms include a reduction in urine and frequency of urination, swelling in the body, decreased consciousness, and shortness of breath.

The Health Office said children must be brought to a health facility within 12 hours if they are experiencing fever, diarrhea, vomiting, and reduced urination frequency.

Widyastuti asked people not to panic but remain alert, especially if their children experience a reduction in urine and frequency of urination.

According to data shared by the Jakarta Health Office on its Instagram account @dinkesdki, from January 1 to October 13, 2022, there have been 42 reports of mysterious acute kidney disorder among children in Jakarta.

Of the total, 37 reports pertain to children under five, and the remaining 5 involve children aged 5–18 years.

As per the Health Office’s records, 25 patients have died, 7 are still being treated in hospitals, and 10 have recovered from the disease so far.
