Based on data from the Satellite-based Disaster Early Warning System (SADEWA) by BRIN, early morning rain started from the west coast of Banten then spread to the mainland to reach the entire Jakarta, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi area
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) reminded the public to be aware of extreme rain in the early morning since it has a repetition pattern that will occur the next day.

The climatology researcher from BRIN's Center for Climate and Atmospheric Research, Erma Yulihastin, remarked that extreme rain and strong winds could likely occur in several areas in Java until the end of October.

"Based on data from the Satellite-based Disaster Early Warning System (SADEWA) by BRIN, early morning rain started from the west coast of Banten then spread to the mainland to reach the entire Jakarta, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi area," she said in a statement on Tuesday.

Extreme rain in the early morning began by the intensification of very strong westerly winds of more than 10 meters per second due to the influence of preconditions for vortex formation over the Java Sea, she remarked.

The strong westerly wind, also known as the westerly burst, had also started near midnight the previous day. The west wind that forms appears as a deflection of the south wind that crosses the Sunda Strait and changes its direction to a westerly wind, Yulihastin remarked.

Moreover, the convergence or wind rendezvous also occur on land, specifically between winds from the west and the south.

In addition to the contribution of the strong westerly winds that hit the west and north coasts of western Java, rain on land was also strengthened by the formation of squall line rain over the southern sea of Java that migrated from the west to east.

Hence, Yulihastin forecast that the modulation of heavy rain on land would occur twice a day, specifically early morning rain until 10:00 local time that moves from west to east.

"Followed by rain in the afternoon until the evening, starting from the mountains in the south and then heading to the north coast and causing extreme rain and strong winds in the central and northern regions of Java, especially for East Java," she stated.
