The FIP (Forest Investment Program) 2 project is designed and implemented to strengthen the institutional capacity of KPHs and local communities, so that decentralized forest management can improve forest-based livelihoods in the target areas
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Environment and Forestry Ministry is resolute about bolstering the institutional capacity of Forest Management Units (KPHs) and communities to encourage community-based sustainable forest management at the bottommost level.

"The FIP (Forest Investment Program) 2 project is designed and implemented to strengthen the institutional capacity of KPHs and local communities, so that decentralized forest management can improve forest-based livelihoods in the target areas," Ministry’s Director General of Sustainable Forest Management, Agus Justianto, stated at the opening of the 2022 Forest Investment Program (FIP) Festival here on Wednesday.

Justianto explained that the ministry, through FIP 2, funded by the World Bank and DANIDA (Danish International Development Agency) since 2017, had encouraged the strengthening of institutional capacity in decentralized forest management.

Decentralized forest management is expected to boost the improvement of forest governance and realize sustainable and community-based forest management at the bottommost level.

FIP 2 has been implemented in 10 units of KPH areas spread across Indonesia. Since 2019, Justianto noted that the program had facilitated 95 forest farmer groups (KTH) in eight target provinces.

"Facilitation for the 95 KTHs is a model of community-based forestry business development that can later be upscaled elsewhere outside the FIP II focus as a legacy of this activity," he stated.

He said that KPH and KTH, supported by FIP 2, have resulted in knowledge, technology, and products.

The 2022 Forest Investment Program Festival was held by involving both FIP 2 and FIP 1 to disseminate information on these various achievements to the community.

The festival is aimed at promoting business development in order to create economic independence of communities around forests as well as forest sustainability.
