Yesterday, I met the governor and ESDM (Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry), and all agreed. Later, all buildings in Jakarta will be obligated to have charging stations to facilitate EV users
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi urged managers of office buildings, both government and private, to install electric vehicle (EV) charging stations to boost the use of electric vehicles.

"Yesterday, I met the governor and ESDM (Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry), and all agreed. Later, all buildings in Jakarta will be obligated to have charging stations to facilitate EV users," he stated at the opening of the Indonesia Motorcycle Show (IMOS) 2022 at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) here on Wednesday.

Sumadi emphasized that EVs offer vast benefits not only for transportation but also proffer positive impacts on the environment and reduce the use of fuel oil.

The minister lauded automotive companies willing to start developing and even selling various types of EVs in Indonesia. He expressed hope that this effort would garner huge public response to switch from conventional fuel vehicles to EVs.

"EVs offers a game changer for the environment and the consumption of fuel oil and others," he affirmed.

He is also sanguine about more fuel vehicles being converted into EVs.

The minister did not deny the fact that development of EVs is closely related to the availability of charging infrastructures that had been currently promoted by the government and the private sector.

Earlier, Director of Land Transportation at the Transportation Ministry, Hendro Sugianto, noted that the limited number of charging stations was one of the challenges in the development of the EV ecosystem in Indonesia.

"For the availability of SPKLU (EV charging stations) that is still limited, we are making efforts to collaborate with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and PT PLN (state-run electricity provider) to create a conducive electric vehicle ecosystem," he stated here on Tuesday.

Sugianto said that every newly constructed building or location that became the center of community activities was urged to provide charging station facilities.
