Indonesia will urge other parties, especially developed countries that have not updated their NDC 2030 target, to immediately raise their mitigation, adaptation, and implementation facility ambition at COP-27.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia, which has raised its greenhouse emissions target, will urge other countries, including developed nations, to raise their climate ambition at the 27th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP-27).

Indonesia has raised its climate target in the Enhanced Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) document, which was delivered to the UNFCCC secretariat in September 2022, an official from the Environment and Forestry Ministry, Nuke Mutikania, told the media here on Friday.

Indonesia has increased its target for reducing greenhouse gas emissions through its own efforts from 29 percent to 31.89 percent and through international support from 41 percent to 43.2 percent by 2030, she informed.

Citing Environment and Forestry Minister Siti Nurbaya Bakar's instructions, she said that Indonesia has already provided an example of the Glasgow Climate Pact's implementation through the Enhanced NDC delivery.

"Indonesia will urge other parties, especially developed countries that have not updated their NDC 2030 target, to immediately raise their mitigation, adaptation, and implementation facility ambition at COP-27," Mutikania quoted Bakar as saying.

The target was raised in the Enhanced NDC based on national policies related to climate change.

The sectoral policies include the policy to achieve forestry and land use net absorption or FoLU Net Sink 2030, electric vehicle usage acceleration, and a 100-percent biofuel utilization target.

The minister also underlined the importance of improving understanding of the relationship between the ocean and the climate by strengthening scientific work through research and development as well as ocean modeling and observation strengthening.

"This can be Indonesia's capital to advance the Ocean and Climate Change Dialogue as a continuation of the initiative that began at COP-25 in Madrid in 2019," she remarked.

The COP-27 will be held in Egypt from November 6–18, 2022.
