Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs is pushing the acceleration of agrarian reform to strengthen the economy, including the community’s economy, thoroughly and sustainably.

"In his state address in August 2022, Mr. President (Joko Widodo) emphasized that agrarian reform, social forestry, and land certification should be accelerated to provide benefits that cover fishers, farmers, laborers, informal workers, and disabled people," deputy for coordination of regional development and spatial planning at the ministry, Wahyu Utomo, said in a statement here on Friday.

Agrarian reform acceleration aligns with Presidential Regulation No. 86 of 2018, he added.

As part of efforts for speeding up the program, public discussions have been organized with local governments, academicians, civil society organizations, and experts.

The Presidential Regulation draft aims to overcome the fundamental problems that may arise in the implementation of the agrarian reform through breakthroughs such as joint surveys, agrarian conflict resolution, institutional strengthening of the Project Management Office (PMO), and legalizing special assets of transmigration land, Utomo pointed out.

Since 2021, internal consolidation, focus group discussions, and public discussions have been held to gather inputs from all stakeholders to improve the regulation draft.

In addition, the deputy said that public discussions have also been carried out as a form of commitment to meet the needs of humane and just laws for the community.

"We hope the public discussion can strengthen the government, that this presidential regulation draft has accommodated inputs that become the government's consideration, so that the regulation can be implemented more quickly," he said.

Meanwhile, the public discussion focused on the challenges that still exist to the implementation of the agrarian reform policy, such as indications of purchase and sale after the handover of land certificates, obstacles to writing-off objects and the nomination of objects, and inefficiency in resolving conflicts through court.
