Semarang, Central Java (ANTARA) - The empowerment of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) by all stakeholders could help prepare for next year's recession, which poses the risk of layoffs, Manpower Minister Ida Fauziyah has said.

"I think (the empowerment of SMEs) is possible; in fact, they were born in the midst of and survived during the pandemic, so the potential is extraordinary," she remarked on the sidelines of the 3rd National Gathering of Bu Nyai Nusantara in Semarang on Monday.

According to the minister, the empowerment of MSME players could be carried out by the managers of Islamic boarding schools, which focus on the educational aspects of entrepreneurship.

Islamic boarding schools could also promote economic growth through businesses that directly involve the public.

"The contribution turned out to be so great, to give birth to a superior generation and entrepreneurs, these are business actors from all Islamic boarding schools," Fauziyah said after opening an MSME exhibition organized as part of the gathering.

In addition, the Manpower Ministry is seeking to improve the competence of the workforce by offering vocational education and vocational training to increase the competitiveness of workers and reduce unemployment.

Moreover, the problem currently being faced is the low ability to keep up with digitization and the loss of some job positions in the future.
