Jakarta (ANTARA) - House of Representatives' (DPR's) Speaker Puan Maharani expects various global challenges, including climate change impacts, renewable energy development, pandemic, and affordable digital technology development, to be handled through education cooperation between Indonesia and South Korea.

During the memorandum of understanding (MoU) inking between Pukyong National University (PKNU), South Korea, with eight universities in Indonesia, Maharani remarked that education was no longer a domestic issue but also part of intercontinental cooperation.

University collaboration between countries can contribute in improving the quality of universities and human resources in a country, the speaker noted through her statement on Monday.

"Education for the younger generation is an investment for a country's future. Education is a game-changer that can determine a country's development," she remarked.

She expects that the MoU signing will strengthen education cooperation between Indonesia and South Korea.

She urged to make this signed cooperation to be the momentum to develop broader collaboration between academic staff members in Indonesia and South Korea.

"I expect more cooperation between the two countries' universities and research institutions to work with one another in conducting joint research, creating innovations, and developing best practices," she remarked.

Universities in Indonesia have created several breakthroughs, such as encouraging cooperation between universities in Indonesia with globally-renowned universities, Maharani remarked.

The number of Indonesian students that studied in South Korea stood at 2,006 as per 2021, she noted.

PKNU cooperates with Bogor Agricultural University (IPB), Mataram University (Unram), Makassar State University (UNM), Padang State University (UNP), Semarang State University (Unnes), Surabaya State University (Unesa), Yogyakarta State University (UNY), and Pattimura University (Unpatti).

This academic cooperation aims to develop network with real connection to improve the quality of education, knowledge, technology, and internationalization.
