This nation needs you, so that you can take (us) to be equal as other nations
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Social Affairs Minister Tri Rismaharini kindled the spirit to instill heroic values, such as bravery, in facing global competitions in commemorating National Heroes' Day at the Kalibata Heroes Cemetery in Jakarta on Thursday .

"This nation needs you, so that you can take (us) to be equal as other nations," Rismaharini stated here on Friday.

At the event themed "My Hero My Model" held at the convention building of the Kalibata Heroes Cemetery, South Jakarta, on Thursday (November 10), Rismaharini kindled the spirit of nationalism, so that students can apply heroic values in their day-to-day lives.

The minister encouraged students to be brave in facing the challenging global competition.

In the dialogue, she said students are the generations of heroes, who will continue the nation's struggles to advance social welfare.

She emphasized the importance of the students' understanding that today's struggle is no longer by gearing up weapons, but the fight is against poverty and ignorance. Through this activity, she expressed optimism that Indonesian children can grow with strong character.

"Hence, we (should) teach these children (about the values of heroism). It is expected that they will be able to spread (the spirit and values of heroism) to their friends, and the nation's youths have a strong character," she explained.

Just like the heroes, who were able to fight the armed invaders with only pointed bamboo, she encouraged students to not be afraid and to not easily give up amid limitations, failures, and obstacles in achieving their goals.

"The most important thing that we can achieve independence is because of the heroes' persistence and the confidence that we also have strength," she stated.

At the one-day event, a series of activities were held to instill heroic values in students, such as epics about heroes, a grave visit with the minister, and watching movies about heroes together.
