Jakarta (ANTARA) - Quota allocation for the 2023 Masters to Doctoral Education for Superior Scholars (PMDSU) has increased, Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Ministry's official, Mohammad Sofwan Effendi, noted in his statement, Tuesday.

The quota allocation for the PMDSU program has doubled from the current allocation to 300 recipients, he remarked.

PMDSU is a scholarship program for scholars to expedite their education to become doctoral graduates in four years.

They are guided with reliable promoters based on their research and educational track record. To this day, the PMDSU program has entered its sixth batch.

Indonesia should revive with scholarships to close the ratio between population with masters and doctoral degree. The ministry becomes the only institution that allows scholars to earn a doctoral degree in four years.

Being able to earn a doctoral degree in four years will allow Indonesia to have superior human resources in 2035, Effendi explained.

"This is beneficial for Indonesia to be populated with smart children, who are ready to contribute in various fields," he affirmed.

He expects that PMDSU scholarship recipients, beyond having intelligence, also have good character and integrity. With this, they can contribute to Indonesia's development in their preferred fields.

The ministry's official, Tjitjik Srie Tjahjandarie, remarked that within the 2024 Medium Term Development Plan (RPJM), the number of human resources with doctoral degree should reach 20 percent.

However, to this day, the figure still reached around 16 percent. Thus, the number of new awardees was increased to 300, from just around 150, she explained.

The National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) gives mandate that one of the methods to be able to meet the RPJM target is through PMDSU, she noted.
