I believe the PGII initiative will be even more beneficial if it involves as many countries as possible in the world
Nusa Dua, Bali (ANTARA) - Indonesia is ready to support the Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment (PGII) initiated by United States President Joe Biden on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Bali on Tuesday, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said.

"Thank you President Biden for the initiative of conducting the PGII side event. Indonesia is ready to support the PGII initiative, and I hope that PGII can strengthen the results achieved at the G20," he remarked in a joint press statement with President Biden and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen at the Apurva Kempinski, here.

He said that Indonesia has always supported the strengthening of infrastructure development in developing countries.

According to him, the multidimensional crisis that is currently emerging in the world has brought its own challenges to infrastructure development in developing countries, including the shrinking of fiscal space.

However, there are several things that must be considered by PGII in supporting infrastructure development in developing countries, he said.

First, the support must be country-driven or based on the real needs of the destination country. Consultation and dialogue with receiving countries should also be the main guideline for the support.

In addition, infrastructure development must empower local communities and economies so they develop a high sense of ownership and provide support to developing countries to build capacity and independence.

"Thus, developing countries can be more resilient in facing global challenges in the future," he explained.

For example, Indonesia is pushing for equitable development by moving its capital to Nusantara, which will open up investment opportunities of US$20.8 billion in various infrastructure sectors, he pointed out.

Second, efforts toward infrastructure development in developing countries must be based on a collaborative paradigm and involve more stakeholders, including the private sector, which would bring real benefits.

"I believe the PGII initiative will be even more beneficial if it involves as many countries as possible in the world," he said.

Third, PGII must generate support for sustainable development, including through green development and energy transition.

Widodo noted that developing countries are the most vulnerable to the challenges of sustainable development and climate change.

The Indonesian G20 Presidency has encouraged real cooperation in the field of sustainable infrastructure and development funding, he added. Further, Indonesia is serious about the development of the green industry, including the electric car industry ecosystem.

"Indonesia is ready to support the PGII initiative, and I hope that PGII can strengthen the results achieved at the G20," the President remarked.
