Makassar, S Sulawesi (ANTARA) - Rescuers found three villagers dead, while four other residents, who got buried by a landslide in Lonjoboko Village, Parangloe Sub-district, Gowa District, South Sulawesi, were still missing as of Thursday.

The dead victims are identified as Sunaria (38), a resident of Kunyika Hamlet; Nuraeni (47) and Nurhaya (24), both from the Borong Sapiria Hamlet, the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas)-Makassar Office reported.

Their bodies had been handed over to their respective families for burial, according to the rescue agency's head, Djunaidi, in Makassar, the capital of South Sulawesi Province, on Thursday.

A joint team of rescuers continued the search for Daeng Ngasseng (60), Nur Syamsia (25), Muhammad Royan (6), and Jumria (37), who still went missing since Wednesday (Nov 16), he remarked.

The landslide buried a house and dragged a car carrying four people, thereby plunging it into a ravine following a downpour lashing Lonjoboko Village on Wednesday evening, he stated.

One of the car passengers, identified as Nuraeni (47), was found dead. Another passenger named Jumria (37) was still missing, while two others survived the catastrophe, Djunaidi remarked.

The rescuers continued their search efforts to locate the four missing residents by conducting sweeping operations in an area near the landslide and river bank, he stated.

Apart from South Sulawesi, several parts of Indonesia are prone to natural disasters.

On October 8, 2022, for instance, floods inundated certain parts of six sub-districts in East Aceh District, Aceh Province, thereby forcing 2,436 residents to flee to safer places.

Most of the flood victims took refuge at village centers, buildings for religious rituals (meunasah), mosques, and traditional Islamic schools (dayah), according to the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB).

On October 23, 2022, debris from landslides, being cleared by locals, killed three residents of Nyawangan Village in Sendang Sub-district, Tulungagung District, East Java.

According to the village's head, Yoko Dwi Mukarom, two other villagers survived the incident, but they sustained injuries.
