"To preserve the environment, some measures are being taken, such as mitigating the risk of landslides, including maintaining a green space over more than 75 percent of the 6,600 hectares of the Central Government Core Area area, as well as installing sensors monitoring ground movement," Minister Hadimuljono informed during an online discussion, which was accessed from here on Saturday.
The measures also include building structures according to the local topography by utilizing basins for ponds, designing roads with a slope of less than 10 percent, refraining from construction in locations susceptible to high movement, and strictly avoiding stripping off cliffs or slopes, he added.
"As minimum as possible, we use the cut and fill earthwork process method. We follow the topography. We want to take advantage of the topography of the area to become the aesthetics of national city," he said.
For mitigating the risk of flood, the minister is currently completing the construction of the Sepaku-Semoi Dam, whose physical progress has reached around 78 percent. The dam, which has a storage capacity of 10.6 million cubic meters, is expected to help control flooding in the Nusantara capital city area by up to 55 percent.
Nineteen ponds will also be built in the government main area as a regional drainage system as well as to create harmony between green and blue development.
Under structural mitigation efforts, the Public Works and Public Housing Ministry is pursuing infrastructure development that would take three things into account: quality assurance, environmental preservation, and aesthetics.
Infrastructure in the city is being built using the latest technological innovations to ensure high quality in terms of strength, security, safety, durability, and comfort. The effort includes the use of Building Information Models (BIM) to support dynamic design changes, which meet the requirements.
