"Will it be like Jakarta? No. In fact, there is population control here (in IKN)," the functional main expert for planning at the ministry Hayu Parasati said during a virtual discussion, which was followed from here on Tuesday.
In the first phase of relocation in 2024, it is estimated that the city will have around 250 thousand residents consisting of construction workers as well as state civil apparatus (ASN) and officers of the Indonesian Military (TNI) and the National Police (Polri), she noted.
"It (the relocation) will only be completed in 2045, which is estimated to be 1.91 million residents, not more than that because of the carrying capacity of the environment and land are for 1.91 million residents," she explained.
Therefore, it is essential to cooperate with the local government regarding the population control policies that will be implemented at IKN. This, of course, will need to be discussed further, Parasati said.
"Why must (we stop at) 1.91 million residents? We calculated it with an estimation that 250 thousand people will consist of only workers, ASN, and TNI-Polri (members). If they bring their families and others, it (the number) can become 500 thousand people by 2024," she informed.
The relocation of Indonesia's capital city to Nusantara is a part of the strategy to realize Indonesia's 2045 Vision and push the transformation of the social, cultural, and economic development of the nation.
In addition, it is aimed at accelerating development in the eastern part of Indonesia through inclusive and equitable economic growth.
The new capital city is planned to be constructed with new standards that are of higher quality and are adaptive, innovative, inclusive, just, sustainable, and dignified.
