This conference can be an active forum for academicians and researchers to develop science and biorefinery technology
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) organized The International Conference of Lignocellulose (Iconlig) that was held virtually on November 24-25, 2022, to drive innovation and raise the economic value of sustainable materials.

"This conference can be an active forum for academicians and researchers to develop science and biorefinery technology," Head of BRIN's Biomass and Bioproduct Research Center (PRBB), Akbar Hanif Dawan, noted at the Iconlig 2022, Thursday.

Iconlig 2022 discusses the latest in research and development as well as identifies future trends and needs in biomass processing, vegetable chemical compounds, biocomposites, wood and forest industries, and biopolymers.

He expects that Iconlig can be the initial gateway to create new products from biomass through a more efficient, eco-friendly, and sustainable means or through a method more integrated with other biorefinery approach-based systems.

At the conference, experts and practitioners can promote their latest findings in their respective fields and share goals and recommendations that can encourage the creation of innovation and provide high added value toward biomass and bioproducts.

The conference, held by BRIN and Japan Society for The Promotion and Science (JSPS), also provides an opportunity for all participants to exchange new ideas and findings, develop ideas, establish cooperation, and share knowledge.

Head of Iconlig's Organizing Committee Yeyen Nurhamiyah noted that the conference not only serves to update knowledge with the latest scientific development in lignocellulose but also as a platform to develop new partnership for research cooperation.

Partnership collaboration can lead to optimal improvement and provide a strong impact on scientific research and community, she remarked.

Iconlig discusses basic to advanced research on harvesting, conversion, and characterization of biomass and derivative products, such as forest products, cellulose, hemicellulose, lignin, tannins, essential oils, natural resins, bio-based polymers, and composites.

Moreover, the conference discusses their application in industries, such as agriculture, engineering, environment, or medical.
