Jepara, Central java (ANTARA) - The government is striving incessantly to boost the competencies of people, especially women, given that most of them are educated to middle school or lower level, Manpower Minister Ida Fauziyah noted.

"In this era, graduate certificate is not a problem as long as they have certified competency," Fauziyah stated at the Indonesian Women Ulema Congress (KUPI) here, Thursday.

"We prepare them to become competent workers, who shift from being informal workers to being formal workers," she remarked.

According to data from Statistics Indonesia (BPS), women, with middle school or lower level of education, constitute most of Indonesia's workforce, she remarked.

Specifically, 56 percent of the workforce have middle school or lower level of education. From this figure, most of them are women, she noted.

Moreover, until this day, women still work overseas in informal or domestic sectors, she highlighted.

Fauziyah emphasized the need to address this condition that remains a problem.

The minister pointed out that on assessing the unemployment situation in Indonesia, the figure chiefly constituted people with higher level of education, or those who had graduated from high school, vocational, school, and universities.

Meanwhile, people with low level of education were working.

"This happens due to a mismatch wherein their educational background does not align with the labor market. That became our challenge," she remarked.

The government is striving to develop link and match as well as improve the competencies of people, especially women, she stated.

During the event, Minister of Villages, Development of Disadvantaged Regions, and Transmigration Abdul Halim Iskandar noted that his ministry encourages women's representation among village officials to reach 30 percent.

"Women's leadership is still relatively small," he remarked.
