Jakarta (ANTARA) - Chief of the Indonesian State Audit Board (BPK) Isma Yatun was elected chair of the UN Panel of External Auditors for the December 2022–December 2023 term at a recent meeting of the panel in Chile.

The election of the BPK chief to the post proved the international community's recognition of the BPK's capacity as a professional audit institution, Chief of the Board's Public Service and International Cooperation Bureau Kusuma Ayu Rusnasanti said in a written statement released in Jakarta on Wednesday.

In addition, it confirmed the active role and contribution of Indonesia to the world, she added.

Yatun was elected to the post after Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs), which are members of the UN Panel of External Auditors, nominated her at the 62nd meeting of the panel, which was held in a hybrid format in Santiago, Chile, on November 28–29, 2-022

Representatives of 11 panel members, including Chile, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, the Philippines, Switzerland, Russia, and Britain attended the meeting in person. Only Ghana participated in the meeting virtually.

As the chair of the UN Panel of External Auditors, BPK led the 63rd meeting of the panel at the UN Headquarters in New York, the US, on November 20–21, 2023.

Earlier, BPK was also elected as vice chair of the panel for the 2022 term.
