There are 18 job openings that will accept 95 disabled workers
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta provincial government along with the Jakarta Alms Agency (Baznas Bazis) opened work opportunities for people with disabilities through a job fair held in Lapangan Banteng, Central Jakarta.

"I thank several companies that have taken the initiative to welcome our disabled colleagues to work," Acting Governor of Jakarta Heru Budi Hartono remarked after opening the job fair here, Saturday.

Gradually, state- or region-owned companies in Jakarta will accept disabled workers in accordance with the mandate of Law No. 8 of 2016 on People with Disabilities.

The job fair, planned to be held for a day until 5 p.m. local time, is participated by Regional-Owned Enterprises (BUMD) and private companies in the capital city.

Head of Jakarta Manpower, Transmigration, and Energy Office Andri Yansah noted that 13 companies, comprising seven BUMDs and six private companies, participated in the job fair.

"There are 18 job openings that will accept 95 disabled workers," he explained.

The job fair is not the first. The office held 15 job fairs within a year by collaborating with several institutions, including 40 to 50 companies, that are also recruiting disabled workers.

Based on Law No. 8 of 2016, private companies should at least employ one percent of disabled workers out of the total workforce.

Meanwhile, the State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs), BUMD, and the government have to employ two percent of disabled workers.

Head of the Jakarta Social Affairs Office Premi Lasari remarked that the number of people with disabilities in Jakarta reached around 44,456.

Meanwhile, given that private companies in Jakarta have to employ one percent of disabled workers, Yansah estimated that around 400-500 disabled workers have already been absorbed by these companies.

Head of Jakarta Baznas Bazis Akhmad Abubakar explained that the job fair is part of the Jakarta Cinta Disabilitas (Jakarta Loves Disabled) Program to give better attention to people with disabilities.

"Not just becoming disabled-friendly but also encouraging them to become independent and more productive," he added.
