Jakarta (ANTARA) - Government spokesperson for COVID-19, Reisa Broto Asmoro, has urged everyone to follow a healthy lifestyle to prevent an increase in polio and COVID-19 cases as the end-of-the-year holidays draw near.

"During the end-of-the-year holiday, there will be many gatherings, outdoor activities," she noted during a health broadcast that was streamed online on Monday.

A clean and healthy lifestyle is especially important given that, during the rainy season, there are other diseases beyond COVID-19 that frequently emerge in Indonesia, such as influenza, typhus, and dengue hemorrhagic fever, she added.

Implementing a healthy lifestyle involves eating a balanced and nutritious diet, undertaking routine exercise, sunbathing, and sleeping for an appropriate amount of time.

It also involves following the health protocols such as wearing a mask, washing hands with soap, and maintaining distance.

"This includes vaccination, and not just COVID-19 vaccine, but also other beneficial vaccines such as influenza," she informed.

"This needs to be repeated once a year. After that, typhoid vaccination should be repeated once per three years. This has to be done as our effort to not be infected with diseases that exist around us," she added.

Taking note of the extraordinary event (KLB) of a polio case finding in Pidie, Aceh, Asmoro urged parents to complete their children's immunization as a form of prevention from disability.

Parents cannot neglect this since there are many diseases that can be prevented through immunization, she said.

She also expressed her concern over the detection of four polio cases in Indonesia.

She said she expects Indonesia to be free from polio and urged parents to promptly take their children to hospitals, public health centers (puskesmas), or integrated health posts (posyandus) to complete their immunization.

Parents can look through the Mother and Child Health (KIA) book to check which immunization has not been completed, she added.
