Jakarta (ANTARA) - The tax revenue target has been almost reached this year as a result of efforts to serve taxpayers well, according to the director general of taxes, Suryo Utomo.

"Why we achieved (the target) in 2021 and 2022 when, God Willing, we will achieve it again, is because we are working by serving taxpayers as well as possible," he added during the World Anti-Corruption Day commemoration event held by the Directorate General of Taxes (DJP) here on Tuesday.

He noted that tax revenue growth has been positive since April 2021, which is consistent with the trend of economic recovery following the COVID-19 pandemic.

Tax revenue realization reached Rp1,448.2 trillion in October 2022, or 97.5 percent of the Rp1.485-trillion target this year, the director general highlighted.

Positive tax revenue growth until the end of the third quarter of 2022 was supported by expansive commodity price growth and economic development, he said, adding that the implementation of the Taxation Regulation Harmonization Law also contributed to the positive performance.

Moreover, the positive performance shown by DJP officials, including while serving taxpayers, also served as a factor in the high tax revenue collection, he added.

"Our work has been consistent, and our economy is also good, hence, we can collect more money from economic (growth)," Utomo said.

He then reiterated the directorate general's commitment to treating employees and taxpayers as humans with their own unique character, opportunity, and awareness, despite the DJP having full authority to investigate taxpayers to achieve tax revenue targets.

Humane treatment means that proper communication with taxpayers would be sought first if their tax document is incomplete instead of sending them a notification about the discrepancy, the director general said.

"We will first notify (taxpayers) if we find a minor discrepancy and ask them to clarify any deficiencies. We will no longer promptly send any letter to investigate (the discrepancy),” Utomo informed.

He added that proper communication and refraining from hasty action would motivate taxpayers to fulfill their taxation obligations.
