Bandarlampung, Lampung (ANTARA) - Lampung Governor Arinal Djunaidi has asked all parties to continue preserving the Lampung language by speaking or using it in their daily activities.

"The Lampung provincial government strives to preserve regional languages, especially the Lampung language," he said at the “Lampung Language Congress I” here on Thursday.

Efforts to preserve the Lampung local language need to be carried out by all parties, he stressed.

"It is expected that all will carry out the habit of using the regional language and make it a matter of pride," the governor stated.

The use of the Lampung language should start in the family environment, then school and the wider community so that it does not become extinct, he said.

According to him, efforts to preserve the local language can be optimized and strengthened through the Lampung Language Congress.

"I hope this momentum can be a milestone in the preservation of Lampung culture, language, and script, so that the wider community can know and use the Lampung language," he said.

He further said that he expects the congress to result in strategies that seek to explore, maintain, and develop regional languages.

"Culture is an indicator that characterizes whether high or low a nation's dignity and civilization are. Culture is built by various elements, such as language, literature and script, art, and value systems that grow and develop," Djunaidi added.

Meanwhile, the Lampung Language Agency has developed the Indonesian-Lampung digital language dictionary that can be accessed on the website https://kamuslampungkbpl.id/beranda.

The digital dictionary has been launched to ensure the widest access to information and secure the community's participation in the development of the Lampung language vocabulary.

Earlier, on November 11, 2022, the Lampung Language Agency had organized a “Lampung Cultural Dictionary Focus Group Discussion,” which involved a culturalist, a traditional music expert, and a customary law expert.
