Moreover, corruption also robs the people's rights.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Head of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Firli Bahuri emphasized that the commemoration of 2022 International Anti-Corruption Day (IACD) should be a momentum to make corruption as a common enemy.

"Eradicating corruption is a joint movement and collaborative synergy among all parties. We must make corruption as our common enemy," he remarked at the main event of the 2022 IACD commemoration here on Friday.

Raising the theme of "Indonesia Recovers, Unites Against Corruption," he is optimistic that Indonesia would be able to quickly recover from the COVID-19 pandemic and solve the corruption problems.

"We are very aware that we have just gone through a health crisis. Thanks to the hard work of the Indonesian government under the leadership of President Joko Widodo and Vice President Ma'ruf Amin, we are able to recover from the crisis," the KPK head remarked.

He said that the theme of the 2022 IACD commemoration in Indonesia was also in line with the theme of Indonesia’s 2022 G20 Presidency of "Recover Together, Recover Stronger" and the theme of the commemoration of the 77th Anniversary of Indonesia of "Recuperate Faster, Revive Stronger."

Furthermore, he emphasized that corruption could fail a country from achieving its national goals.

"We must also note that national goals are difficult to achieve, and they may be even impossible to be realized if we cannot resolve our nation's problems. (One of) our nation's fundamental problem is corruption. Many countries had failed to realize their goals because of corruption," Bahuri stressed.

He cautioned that corruption is not only detrimental to the finance and economy of the country but also to public rights.

"Moreover, corruption also robs the people's rights," he added.

On the same occasion, he stated that studies showed that corruptors were not anxious about being imprisoned, but they were afraid of impoverishment.

The IACD is observed annually on December 9 to raise public awareness on anti-corruption attempts.
