We recommend earthquake-resistant design in disaster-prone areas to be developed by regional authorities or by the community themselvesCianjur, West Java (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing recommended Simple Healthy Instant House (RISHA) technology to reconstruct and reinforce school buildings in disaster-prone regions.
The ministry's Director General of Housing, Iwan Suprijanto, said that since 2018, the ministry has recommended a prototype of a disaster-resistant school building for school reconstructions.
"We recommend earthquake-resistant design in disaster-prone areas to be developed by regional authorities or by the community themselves," Suprijanto stated here, Sunday.

Despite the name implying its main purpose for housing development, the director general pointed out that RISHA technology could be adopted for public facilities, such as schools.
He added that the prototype of a school developed with RISHA technology has been finalised through the directorate general circular.
He pointed out that Cibantala No. 1 Primary School in Munjul Village, Cilaku Sub-district, Cianjur, had been developed by RISHA technology in 2021.
"We used the RISHA technology (in the school), and, Praise be to God, the school is relatively safe," Suprijanto remarked.
Earlier, the ministry spokesperson, Endra S Atmawidjaja, informed that according to the RISHA technology application team, schools developed with RISHA technology were safe from the 5,6-magnitude earthquake rattled Cianjur last November.

The two schools in Cilaku Village, close to the earthquake epicentre in Cugenang Village, are Kidang Kencana Primary School and Cibantala No. 1 Primary School, the spokesperson noted.
He said that the structural conditions of the two schools developed with RISHA technology were relatively intact and survived the earthquake, while other schools developed with conventional technology suffered major damages.
Atmawidjaja added that other schools in disaster-prone areas in Banten, Central Sulawesi, West Sulawesi, and West Nusa Tenggara also adopted the RISHA technology.
