Jakarta (ANTARA) - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin made an earnest appeal at the commemoration of the 74th World Human Rights Day 2022 here, Monday, that all elements should uphold equality for all parties without exception.

“Ladies and gentlemen, on the commemoration of World Human Rights Day, I ask all of us to consider several things. First, we must place each policy in the context of promoting, respecting, protecting, and fulfilling human rights. We uphold equality for everyone without exception," he remarked.

Second, in a pluralistic Indonesian context, the vice president accentuated the importance of upholding the values and practices of tolerance, moderation, and solidarity among fellow citizens.

He noted that the outlook and behavior of intolerance would only lead to the collapse of the foundations of human rights.

Third, Amin sees the need for a balanced outlook between human rights and human rights obligations, since there are no free and absolute rights, where there must be guidelines for applying the concept of human rights in the context of nationalism, humanity, and nationality.

In the context of harmonization of obligations and human rights, he noted that the Ministry of Law and Human Rights has an important role to play as a guardian for the promotion of human rights for all people without forgetting human rights obligations.

On that occasion, the vice president also congratulated and lauded state institutions and local governments who won awards as Districts/Cities Concerned with Human Rights, Local Governments Implementing Human Rights-Based Public Services, and Agencies Responsive in Handling Alleged Human Rights Violations.

"On the commemoration of the 74th World Human Rights Day in 2022, let us use this momentum to strengthen the promotion of human rights for everyone towards an advanced Indonesia," he remarked.
