Jakarta (ANTARA) - The government is considering reviewing the amount of stimulant funding provided for earthquake-hit houses in West Java's Cianjur district.

“Today, we held a ministerial-level coordination meeting to discuss a proposal to revise the amount of stimulant funds for earthquake-affected houses in Cianjur," Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy said following the meeting, which was held at the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture’s office on Monday evening.

The meeting agreed on several points, including a plan to revise the amount of stimulant funds for repairing houses in earthquake-hit areas, he said.

"This aligns with President Joko Widodo's directives," he said.

The next point was related to increasing the funding from Rp50 million to Rp60 million for seriously damaged houses, from Rp25 million to Rp30 million for moderately damaged houses, and from Rp10 million to Rp15 million for lightly damaged houses.

To achieve that end, the government has deemed it necessary to revise the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) chief's Decision No. 85 of 2022 concerning ready-for-use funds for mitigating the impact of the Cianjur earthquake.

"Hopefully, all ministries and (non-ministerial) institutions can follow up on this in accordance with Mr. President's directives," he added.

The minister said that based on data released on Monday, the earthquake that rattled Cianjur on November 21, 2022, caused damage to 56,480 houses, with 13,633 houses suffering serious damage and 16,059 houses sustaining moderate damage.

He further said that simultaneous efforts are being made to accelerate post-earthquake handling in Cianjur.

"The simultaneous efforts start from emergency response, rehabilitation, to reconstruction phases," he said.
