Jakarta (ANTARA) - Some 78 universities collaborate with 78 world-class professors under the 2022 World Class Professor (WCP) Program, the Education, Culture, Research and Technology Ministry stated.

WCP is held, so that lecturers can interact with renowned-quality professors, Resources Director at the Ministry's Education, Research and Technology Directorate General Sofwan Effendi noted through a statement here, Monday.

This was undertaken to improve the academicians' life, competence, quality, and contribution to scientific development as well as strengthen the national innovation system, he remarked.

Effendi opined that the program should be strengthened and expanded by involving more Indonesian quality professors rather than overseas partners.

"We promote the image of domestic quality professors, so that they can be acknowledged, be equal, and have a broad network with other world-class professors," he explained.

"To this end, the program's outcomes are not just publicity but also innovation that can have a major impact for the improvement of the nation's competitiveness," he added.

Moreover, one of the duties of a professor is producing new professors while also graduating doctoral students in the field that they are studying in, Effendy stated.

WCP is an annual event held by the directorate general since 2017.

WCP program's recipient lectures collaborate with world-class professors from various renowned universities, both domestic and overseas, to publish works to highly reputed international journals and invite partner professors as visiting professors to universities in Indonesia.

In addition, lecturers are given the opportunity to visit WCP institutions, both domestic and overseas, as visiting scholars.

This year's WCP program recipients comprise 78 universities, 54 of which are state universities and 24 are private universities. The number of universities participating this year slightly increased as compared to the previous year.

This year's program involves 78 world-class professors from 22 countries.
