Jakarta (ANTARA) - Religious Affairs Minister Yaqut Cholil Qoumas has said he is confident that Indonesia will be able to issue halal certifications for 10 million products to become the leading halal producer in the world by 2024.

"This is a challenge for our Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH) to realize the target. We hope we can achieve that in 2024 to develop our halal industry ecosystem for the sake of Indonesia's economic growth," the minister said in Jakarta on Thursday.

BPJPH's current achievements must be increased and encouraged with the help of digital transformation, Qoumas said.

Digital transformation will help achieve the target of 10 million halal-certified products by 2024, he added.

Moreover, BPJPH must also innovate and analyze obstacles that could hinder the achievement of these targets, he said.

"Halal requires three things, namely, suppliers, demand, and supporters. Well, in this case, one of the supporters is BPJPH," he remarked.

Meanwhile, the head of BPJPH, Aqil Ihram, said that in the period from 2019–2022, a total of 864,014 products have received halal certification, or nearly 300 thousand products have been halal certified on average each year.

"We are pursuing various efforts to increase the achievement of halal certification in an effort to achieve the goal of Indonesia becoming the number one producer of halal products in the world by 2024," he disclosed.

The Indonesian Halal Festival, which is taking place from December 14–16, 2022, at the Jakarta Hajj Dormitory aims to increase awareness about halal-certified products and help the government achieve its 2024 target, he added.

Several activities have been organized as part of the festival, such as free halal certificate registration (Sehati), the launch of a halal laboratory consortium, the 2022 Halal Indonesia Award, a halal talk show, and an exhibition of halal products.
