Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) South Jakarta Branch distributed aid to fire victims in Manggarai, Tebet, South Jakarta, as form of support and sympathy.

"We have moved directly since the day of the incident by dispatching 10 volunteers along with an ambulance and a motorbike," chairman of Indonesian Red Cross South Jakarta Branch Abdul Haris said here on Sunday.

PMI sent some aid, among them being 20 sacks containing five kilograms (kg) of rice, 15 boxes of instant noodles, 10 bags of one liter of oil, 20 bottles of soy sauce, 20 cans of sardines, three boxes of biscuits, one box of milk, four boxes of soaps, and two boxes of wet wipes.

PMI would continue to provide food assistance and items such as blankets, mattresses, tarpaulins, mineral water to children's toys, he said.

"For now, the refugees are still spread around the fire site and the village, and social affairs office will also send ready-to-eat meals," he remarked.

On Saturday, December 17 at 3.05 pm local time, a fire destroyed 13 houses and 40 rented rooms which houses 53 families, or 230 people.

Personnel of South Jakarta Fire and Rescue Service Sub-agency made attempts to put out fire from 03.10 to 04.50 pm local time.

It is suspected that the cause of the fire was due to a lightning strike which blasted one resident's television. Currently, total loss from the accident is unknown.

The three locations that became the evacuation places were Krida Karang Taruna Facilities and RT05/RW01 Post on Manggarai Utara 5 Street and Child-Friendly Integrated Public Space (RPTRA) Cibono at Jalan Manggarai Utara 1.

Jakarta Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency had distributed logistics and basic assistance to 230 survivors of the fire in Manggarai, South Jakarta.

"For this incident, the Jakarta Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency distributed logistics and basic life assistance to the survivors, ranging from water to sarongs," Chief Executive of the Jakarta Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency Isnawa Adji noted.

The assistance consisted of 15 boxes of mineral water, 70 blankets, 25 packs of family equipment, 60 mattresses, 25 packs of children's clothes, 25 tarpaulins, 60 mukena, and 60 sarongs.
