We remind that the joy of Christmas must (be experienced by) sticking to health protocolsJakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Religious Affairs reminded Christians to continue to comply with health protocols during the 2022 Christmas celebrations despite no more restrictions on the capacity of the congregation attending worship on-site.
"We must be alert and vigilant, as we are still in the post-transition of COVID-19 (pandemic). We remind that the joy of Christmas must (be experienced by) sticking to health protocols," the ministry's spokesperson, Anna Hasbie, remarked here on Tuesday.
Earlier, Religious Affairs Minister Yaqut Cholil Qoumas issued Circular No. 15 of 2022 concerning Christmas Celebrations in 2022 during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The circular stipulates that on-site Christmas services can be attended, with a maximum of 100 percent of the church's capacity.

The circular also regulates efforts to prevent COVID-19 transmission, such as readying officers to inform and supervise the 5M health protocols: washing hands, wearing masks, maintaining physical distancing, avoiding crowds, and reducing mobility, as well as monitoring the flow or mobility of the congregation.
The Religious Affairs Ministry expects that this year's Christmas will be a celebration of solidarity between Christians and fellow Indonesians in facing the situation ahead that is projected to be replete with challenges.
"We are optimistic that this year's Christmas can be celebrated with great joy but not extravagantly," Hasbie remarked.

Meanwhile, Chairperson of the Communion of Churches in Indonesia (PGI) Gomar Gultom welcomed the policy of 100-percent capacity for worship attendance at church.
Nevertheless, he still urged churches to strictly implement health protocols in order to minimize the transmission of COVID-19.
"Churches must be the restorer of life. Hence, churches must adhere to a clean and healthy lifestyle and be an example in overcoming this pandemic," Gultom stated.
In terms of securing the holiday season, the National Police has planned to conduct Operation Lilin 2022 from December 22, 2022, to January 2, 2023.
