We have sent various water purification equipment to produce clean, drinkable water
Sukabumi, West Java (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) has set up a clean drinking water treatment plant in order to meet the needs of earthquake survivors in Cianjur District, West Java.

"We have sent various water purification equipment to produce clean, drinkable water," PMI's Water and Sanitation Central Operations Manager Nanang Kurnia stated when contacted on Saturday.

The clean water treatment plant has been established at Sukawangi Village and can produce 1,200 liters of ready-to-drink clean water per hour.

According to Kurnia, the availability of clean water after a disaster is essential since several sources of clean water, such as wells, had been damaged. To this end, the PMI built the drinking water treatment plant to fulfill the need for clean water.

Water that has been processed and ready to drink will then be distributed to several evacuation locations in Cianjur District. Currently, the availability of clean water at the residents' evacuation locations is limited.

The need for clean water must be fulfilled quickly, while still maintaining the quality of water distributed to residents to avoid the emergence of new problems, such as diseases.

"The provision of clean water for earthquake survivors in Cianjur is one of PMI's commitments to continuously maximizing various services. We hope the residents' need for clean water would be fulfilled," he remarked.
