"Kualanamu Airport is busy serving passengers traveling to celebrate Christmas and 2023 New Year," Operations Director of PT Angkasa Pura Aviasi for Kualanamu International Airport Heriyanto Wibowo said in Medan on Saturday.

Heriyanto predicted the number of homeward Christmas and New Year holidaymakers reached its peak on Saturday (December 24, 2022).

To anticipate a surge in the number of air passengers, several airlines including Garuda Indonesia and Lion Air provided extra flights, he said.

Garuda Indonesia increased its flight frequency to six times a week . Lion Air and Batik Air respectively provided one extra flight on December 22 and December 23, 2022.

"With the extra flights, we hope the quota of passengers travelling (to the rest of Indonesia) can be met and balanced," he said.
