For Bali, we have no doubt regarding their electricity availability because they have shown their capability during the G20 Summit last November. It just needs a few adjustments in different locations
Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA) - The Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry noted that state-owned electricity company (PT PLN) in Bali region had ensured safe electricity supply ahead and during the peak of the 2023 New Year celebrations.

"For Bali, we have no doubt regarding their electricity availability because they have shown their capability during the G20 Summit last November. It just needs a few adjustments in different locations," the ministry's acting director general of electricity, Dadan Kusdiana, stated while reviewing the availability of electricity at the UP2B Office in Mengwi Sub-district, Badung District, Bali, Tuesday.

He also lauded PLN for being on standby during the 2022 Christmas celebrations that facilitated the smooth implementation of events.

However, Kusdiana still urged PLN to pay attention to the availability of electricity to handle the New Year peak load, especially at places used for New Year celebrations that require high electricity supply. PLN should mitigate potential disturbances as early as possible, such as dealing with extreme weather that has recently occurred at several points in Bali.

"Regarding extreme weather, natural disasters, and local disturbance, they must be handled with good systems and mechanisms," he stated.

He later explained that the supply of electricity is as important as the availability of fuel oil. By providing reliable electricity supply, it automatically keeps the wheels of the economy running.

Based on data, the amount of PLN's electricity usage for Christmas this time fell by 1.9 percent as compared to the previous year. As of Tuesday, electricity consumption in Bali had reached 777 megawatts (MW), or down from the usual 900 MW-916 MW.

However, Kusdiana has forecast that the supply and demand for electricity in Bali ahead of New Year will increase, as tourist visits to Bali have surged recently.

"In terms of capacity, I think it is sufficient, just as PLN has succeeded in providing electricity for the G20. Hence, the current process seems to have continued the exercises carried out at that time with sufficient capacity. If they lack electricity supply, the system has been connected to the system in Java," he remarked.

Interestingly, electricity supply in Bali is different from the other regions where the peak load and minimum load are not too distinct despite electricity fluctuations at certain times.
