Electrification is very important to improve the quality of life of people
Tulungagung, East Java (ANTARA) - East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa is targeting the electrification ratio in East Java Province to reach 100 percent in 2024.

"Electrification is very important to improve the quality of life of people. Currently, all aspects, like the economy, education, and other social activities, really need electricity," she stated here on Thursday.

Parawansa made the statement during her visit to Tulungagung District, East Java, to distribute home electrical installation (IRSR) assistance and free pre-paid electricity tokens to beneficiaries in the region.

According to the governor, the electrification ratio in East Java has, so far, reached 99.36 percent, with almost all villages in the province being connected to electricity.

"If there are still those who have no access to (state-owned electricity company) PLN's electricity, it usually occurs in remote hamlets or areas as well as inhabited islands around Madura Island that are not yet reached by the PLN network," she said.

To this end, she is targeting that no more families or households would be without electricity in 2024.

The East Java provincial government is prioritizing the electrification program as an effort to realize economic justice, which is one of the missions of the Optimistic East Java Work Program.

So far, the East Java provincial government has distributed IRSR assistance to 2,700 beneficiaries. Meanwhile, for the free pre-paid electricity tokens, 19,501 families have received the assistance.

General Manager of the East Java Main Distribution Unit of PLN, Lasiran, affirmed that his side is still striving to distribute electricity to several islands.

According to data, East Java has a total of 43 inhabited islands, out of which 19 islands have not received electricity from PLN.

"This year, we built in six islands. The rest will be completed next year," Lasiran remarked.
