OISAA can invite and become a bridge connecting (members of the) diaspora with marginalized families. This can (support efforts to) overcome extreme poverty and stunting.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Population and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN) is working with the Overseas Indonesian Students Association Alliance (OISAA) to accelerate stunting reduction and realize Indonesia's golden generation by 2045.

The cooperation with OISAA would be of significant help to the government in improving the quality of human resources in Indonesia and accelerating stunting reduction, BKKBN head Hasto Wardoyo said, according to a statement issued by the agency here on Wednesday.

OISAA is expected to encourage the Indonesian diaspora to participate in government programs, such as the Foster Fathers of Stunted Children program.

"OISAA can invite and become a bridge connecting (members of the) diaspora with marginalized families. This can (support efforts to) overcome extreme poverty and stunting. OISAA can also invite diaspora (members) to develop their economy by helping poor people and those at risk of stunting," he said.

Wardoyo expressed the hope that the cooperation with OISAA would last for a long time. It is also hoped that they will be able to carry out scientific research and write journals on stunting, which could become reference materials for all stakeholders in stunting reduction acceleration.

During a meeting at the BKKBN headquarters in Jakarta on Tuesday, the coordinator of OISAA, Achyar Al Rasyid, said that the alliance is ready to support the government in expediting stunting reduction by carrying out several activities.

The activities will include efforts related to stunting reduction acceleration on Gili Ketapang Island, Sumbersarih sub-district, Probolinggo district, East Java, on January 15, 2023.

The efforts will involve environmental preservation, especially of coral reefs, and the provision of clean water to reduce stunting prevalence.

Then, on January 30, 2023, OISAA members will visit Kertek sub-district, Wonosobo district, Central Java, to provide services to pregnant women as well as iron supplements.
