Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Red Cross (PMI) has established a post to provide assistance for flood victims in West Jakarta.

The post is situated at the West Jakarta National Red Cross Office located on Perdana Street, Wijaya Kusuma Village, Grogol Petamburan Sub-District, West Jakarta.

"We just had a meeting with the mayor yesterday that we will create an aid post for flood victims," Chairperson of West Jakarta Representative of PMI Becky Mardani stated here on Monday.

Mardani emphasized that the post was deemed necessary, since currently, the city was still in the middle of the rainy season. In times like this, the area is more prone to floods, particularly in settlements that are adjacent to the banks of the big river.

Hence, his administration has prepared some items at the command post to help the flood victims. The facilities they have range from an ambulance, three rubber boats, a large evacuation tent, as well as equipment to conduct medical checks.

Moreover, his administration will provide meals and beverages as a form of assistance for these victims.

"We will adjust the amount of aid in accordance with the number of people, who are affected. What is for sure is that we will prepare consumption or clothing assistance," he elaborated.

He explained that the post would work in accordance with the coordination between Red Cross units at the sub-district scope all the way to the city scope.

Should there be any severe flood in a certain sub-district, the information will be conveyed to the Red Cross unit of the city scope, and the aid would be delivered to the said area.
