...it has been well planned, and some (facilities) are still being prepared to strengthen the (electricity) system, thus the (electricity) reliability will certainly increase.
Surabaya, E Java (ANTARA) - State-owned electricity provider PT PLN (Persero) is preparing zero downtime electricity supply for the successful implementation of the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup at Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium, Surabaya city, East Java province.

"We will post 60 personnel (at the stadium) when the event takes place,” the general manager of PLN’s East Java Main Distribution Unit (UID) Lasiran informed in a statement received on Thursday.

He said that his party will also prepare 5 units of uninterruptible power supply (UPS) with a capacity of 250 kilo volt-ampere (kVA), a 630 kVA-Mobile Electrical Substation Unit (UGB), as well as 5 units of 250 kiloWatt (kW)-generators during the event.

The GH Tandono Feeder will be the main electricity supplier for the venue. Meanwhile, the Pakal Feeder as well as two additional generators with a capacity of 800 kW will back up the electricity supply.

Some facilities that will be prioritized while securing electricity supply at the stadium include lights, scoreboards, server rooms, media center, VIP rooms, as well as VVIP stands.

PLN is also strengthening the main and backup supplies by establishing a new 105 kVA-electricity connection for external lighting of the stadium as well as constructing an 800-meter (m) Medium Voltage Aerial Cable Channels (SKUTM) for backup supply.

In addition, the state-run company will improve the electrical power capacity of the stadium from 197 kVA to 555 kVA as well as revitalize the 5-kilometer (km) SKUTM cable of the GH Tandono Feeder.

A representative from FIFA, Ross Maclean, lauded PLN's readiness and plan to support the cup.

He made the statement while inspecting the electricity supply plan as well as the main and backup facilities.

"It has been good -- it has been well planned, and some (facilities) are still being prepared to strengthen the (electricity) system, thus the (electricity) reliability will certainly increase," he remarked.

Head of Surabaya city’s Culture, Youth and Sports, and Tourism Office, Wiwiek Widayati, said that thanks to the good collaboration with the state-run corporation, the preparation for the electrical system at Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium went smoothly.

"We expect for (further) synergy and cooperation, thus later the event will run smoothly without any problems. Since it is an international event that promotes Indonesia to the world, thus we must prepare as well as possible," she added.

The FIFA U-20 World Cup will be implemented in six regions across Indonesia, including Jakarta, Bandung district, Solo city, Surabaya city, Gianyar district, and Palembang city, from May 20 to June 11, 2023.
