Prior, the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) informed that the quake occurred at about 25 kilometers (km) northwest of Bogor City, or precisely in Cigudeg Sub-district, Bogor District, on Sunday at 03:32 a.m. Western Indonesia Standard Time (WIB)
The center of the earthquake was located at 6.52 degrees South Latitude and 106.58 degrees East Longitude at a depth of 132 km
Considering the location of the epicenter and the depth of the hypocenter, the quake was a medium-sized earthquake due to subduction activity of the Indo-Australian plate under the Eurasian plate.
The results of the source mechanism analysis showed that the quake has a downward movement or normal fault mechanism
Furthermore, the modeling results showed that the disaster has no potential for a tsunami
According to shakemap published by BMKG, the vibrations were felt in Cikeusik area, Bogor District, at an intensity of III on the Modified Mercalli Intensity (MMI) scale.
Meanwhile, in Jasinga Sub-district, Bogor District, the tremors were sensed at an intensity of II MMI.
MMI II scale shocks can cause hanging light objects to sway, while vibrations on the MMI III scale can be felt by people similar to a truck passing by.
As of 03.55 a.m. WIB, the BMKG monitoring results had not recorded any aftershock.
BMKG appealed to the public to remain calm and not to be influenced by unreliable information.
The residents are also asked to avoid buildings which are cracked or damaged due to the earthquake.
In addition, they are suggested to ensure that their buildings are earthquake resistant, or there is no damage due to the shocks which can harm the stability of the building, before returning home.
