Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Coordinating Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Investment divulged its plan to make Kenya as an export hub in Africa.

"Last night, we just landed from Africa. We were from Kenya, Congo, and Zimbabwe. We are currently probing for the Indonesian market there," deputy of investment coordination and mining at the Coordinating Ministry of Maritime Affairs Septian Hario Seto stated.

Seto delivered the statement during the BRI Micro Finance Outlook 2023 accessed here on Thursday.

Kenya is one of the African countries whose economy has showed good development, he stated. Moreover, East African countries also have the East Africa Economy Community.

It is a regional economy community comprising six countries -- the Republic of Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Kongo, and Tanzania -- as members and a total of US$41 billion in gross domestic product.

"It is a free market in East African countries. This also has become potential to make Kenya an export hub in Africa in the future," he elaborated.

Coordinating Minister of Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan recently noted on his personal instagram handle @luhut.pandjaitan that he undertook a work visit to Kenya a while back to discuss about some commitments and agreements with them.

Indonesia and Kenya will also form a Joint Task Force to intensify bilateral relations and mutually beneficial cooperation.

"Creation of the Joint Task Force in the near future to initiate negotiations on trade cooperation that is focused on three priorities, which are trade and investment, mining, and strategic defense industry," he elaborated.

The minister also stated that Indonesia had effectively allocated a wealth of natural resources for sustainable development of several sectors, ranging from new and renewable energy, mining, electric vehicles, pharmacy, defense industry, digitization of public services, and port operations.

"We said that Indonesia is ready to share its best experience and practices with Kenya in all those sectors," he concluded.
