"I have ordered mayors. There are CSR (funds) that they can use (for MCK),” Hartono stated after carrying out a reforestation agenda at the Balai Tekstil Laboratory here on Friday.
However, Hartono did not reveal the details on the total CSR funds in Jakarta and the amount that will be allocated for building communal MCKs.
The acting governor noted that the construction of MCKs aims to accommodate the basic needs of the community, especially in densely populated areas.
The existence of MCKs also help to maintain cleanliness and environmental sanitation in addition to preventing residents from defecating in rivers.
"The important aspect is to maintain cleanliness, so that Jakarta can be free from waste and to protect river areas from all kind of garbage disposal," the acting governor affirmed.
One of the MCK facilities been built is in community unit (RW) 04 in Rawasari Village, Central Jakarta.
"I urge residents in RW 04 Rawasari to use it, as it was built by the local government and the National Amil Zakat Agency (Baznas) to change conditions of vulnerable slum points," he stated.
The MCK construction work was conducted by the Jakarta Water Resources Office (SDA) and it completed the construction of 11 communal MCKs in five administrative areas by the end of 2022.
The SDA Office said that the total budget for revitalizing 11 MCKs reached Rp3.5 billion, with Rp2.85 billion for the physical construction and Rp650 million for supervision.
There is a pressing need for MCKs since several residents of Jakarta still did not defecate in the right places.
According to data from the Jakarta Health Office in 2021, some 770 thousand residents of Jakarta still defecated openly.
