Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture has signed an agreement with a digital parenting application provider to support mental revolution programs for schools and families.

"The MoU (memorandum of understanding) signing on the Family Digital Space app is one of the Mental Revolution National Movement's (GNRM's) real actions for increasing literacy enculturation," Mental Revolution, Cultural Advancement, and Sports Achievement Deputy at the ministry Didik Suhardi said here on Saturday.

According to him, the Family Digital Space or Ruang Digital Keluarga app will be used to internalize the values of the mental revolution, strengthen the character education of children and parents, and increase civility in the digital space.

The app is expected to increase digital civility on part of families and 52 million students in Indonesia, according to data from the Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Ministry.

If students get addicted to gadgets, social media, or online games, it can lead to changes in their mood and emotions, disturb their sleep patterns and quality, cause depression, worsen their physical condition, and lead to loss of friends in the real world, Suhardi explained.

Deputy chairperson of the Indonesian Internet Domain Name Registry (PANDI) and one of the initiators of the collaboration, Heru Nugroho, said that cooperation in using the parenting app has been implemented in national private schools.

"I think this application is great if it can be used for free by the education world, especially in public schools, that the government considers this program deserves to be a part of the GNRM," Nugroho added.

On Wednesday (January 25, 2023), an MoU on the use of the Ruang Digital Keluarga application was signed at the Gadjah Mada University (UGM) Rectorate Building, Yogyakarta, by Didik Suhardi from the Coordinating Ministry, and Tombak Simanjuntak, CEO of DEF GHI Global.

Earlier, Coordinating Minister of Human Development and Culture, Muhadjir Effendy, said that his ministry will keep on strengthening the role and function of universities in order to implement the values of the mental revolution, namely work ethic, cooperation, and integrity.
