Jakarta (ANTARA) - The number of international tourist arrivals in Indonesia in 2022 reached 5.47 million, an increase of 251.28 percent from the previous year, Statistics Indonesia (BPS) reported on Wednesday.

"This achievement is still far if compared to (the achievement) before the pandemic. However, it showed a positive trend and supported the optimistic news of maintained 2022–2023 economic recovery," BPS head Margo Yuwono said here on Wednesday.

He further said that the number of international tourist arrivals in December 2022 stood at 895.12 thousand, an increase of 447.08 percent compared to December 2021.

Compared to November 2022, the number of foreign tourist arrivals in December showed an increase of 36.19 percent.

In November 2022, Singapore, Malaysia, and Australia were the top three countries of origin for international tourists visiting Indonesia: the number of arrivals from Singapore stood at 99.39 thousand, Malaysia 99.38 thousand, and Australia 79.4 thousand.

The room occupancy rate at star-rated hotels in December 2022 reached 56.90 percent, an increase of 5.33 percentage points compared to December 2021. Compared to November 2022, the occupancy rate in December 2022 showed an increase of 2.49 percentage points.

The regions that recorded the highest room occupancy rate for star-rated hotels were East Kalimantan (66.51 percent), Yogyakarta (64.95 percent), and Central Sulawesi (63.09 percent).

Meanwhile, the room occupancy rate at non-star-rated hotels stood at 26.45 percent in December 2022, an increase of 1.88 percentage points compared to December 2021. It also reflected a growth of 2.41 percentage points compared to November 2022.

According to Yuwono, especially for Yogyakarta, the increase in hotel room occupancy was caused by the activities and visits of family members of G20 delegates, cultural festivals, and other events held in the province.

The average length of stay at star-rated hotels in December 2022 stood at 1.62 days, an increase of 0.01 points compared to December 2021. Compared to November 2022, it reflected a decline of 0.08 points.
