Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Cultural Affairs Muhadjir Effendy has urged all parties to optimize three key programs to resolve extreme poverty issues in Indonesia.

"To achieve our extreme poverty eradication target, we have three key programs that must be optimized," Effendy said, according to a statement issued here on Monday.

The first program covers social assistance and subsidies to help reduce the burden of consumption on families classified in the extreme poverty group, the coordinating minister informed.

The second program involves residents' empowerment to help increase their family incomes, and the third program concerns the development of basic infrastructures to reduce areas with a high prevalence of extreme poverty, he added.

Efforts to optimize the key programs to reduce extreme poverty would be consistent with Presidential Instruction No. 4 of 2022 on the acceleration of extreme poverty eradication, he said.

"All parties must understand that eradicating extreme poverty will be an arduous task. Hence, integration and synergy of programs and cooperation between the ministries and government instructions are expected to multiply our might to realize the target," Effendy emphasized.

Meanwhile, he noted that the presidential instruction has tasked the coordinating ministry with designating priority locations and targets for extreme poverty eradication efforts.

The same regulation has also authorized the coordinating ministry to coordinate, synchronize, and control government programs to reduce the consumption burden and extreme poverty cases, as well as perform integrated monitoring and evaluation of those programs with relevant agencies, he said.

On account of those duties, the coordinating ministry has asked all parties, including government ministries and institutions as well as regional authorities, to enhance their collaboration on eradicating extreme poverty.

Effendy said that the government is targeting to reduce extreme poverty from four percent to zero percent by 2024.

"President Joko Widodo has also assigned all stakeholders to commit to eradicating extreme poverty cases six years earlier than the SDG (sustainable development goals) target of 2030 to 2024," the minister added.
