"I can say that regional language revitalization this time is a celebration of happiness for regional language speakers, teachers, supporters, as well as activists across all regions," the agency's Head E. Aminudin Aziz here Tuesday.
The 2023 FTBIN is held on February 12-16, 2023, with 215 participants chosen from 13 provinces.
These provinces comprise North Sumatra, West Java, Central Java, Bali, Central Kalimantan, South Sulawesi, West Sulawesi, Papua, West Nusa Tenggara, East Nusa Tenggara, East Kalimantan, Maluku, and North Maluku.
FTBIN is held as a form of appreciation for participants of the Regional Language Revitalization (RBD) Program in 13 provinces that execute the 17th Episode of Merdeka Belajar (Freedom in Learning) Platform in 2022.
The event is also held to commemorate International Mother Language Day.
The regional language protection program involves education units, communities and/or families intended to once again glorify the use of regional languages in various daily activities.
Moreover, the program is undertaken to increase the number of young regional language speakers, so that the vitality of regional languages remains at the safe threshold, and they can be disseminated well.
"This activity is expected to be able to improve the active participation of people and regional governments in preserving their regional languages," he remarked.
During the media briefing event here on Monday, Aziz noted that his agency will conduct the revitalization of 59 regional languages in 22 provinces in 2023.
These 59 regional languages comprise 39 regional languages that had already been included in last year's target and additional 20 regional languages that will be revitalized this year.
