Jakarta (ANTARA) - The results of the 10th World Water Forum in Bali next year can serve as a global reference for water resources management, Public Works and Public Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono has said.

The World Water Forum has become a platform for discussion and exchange of insights as well as experiences for Indonesia and other countries, he said during a press conference here on Wednesday.

At the forum, Indonesia can learn from other countries' water-related experiences, such as flood handling.

Conversely, other countries can also learn from Indonesian local wisdom on water management, such as subak, a type of water irrigation system used in Bali.

"No matter what the result is, it will certainly be a reference for decision-making in water resource management," he remarked.

The World Water Forum is the biggest water sector-related international meeting, the minister noted.

The forum sees participation from all countries in the world and it involves several parties, starting from heads of state, water activists, to the general public.

The World Water Forum has become an essential platform for all water-related issues globally that involve all stakeholders.

The forum is intended to raise awareness about the latest challenges in the water sector as well as discuss real solutions to these issues.

Earlier, President Joko Widodo said he expects the 10th World Water Forum in 2024 to not just be an ordinary conference, but one that produces concrete recommendations on handling the global water crisis.

According to Hadimuljono, the initial meeting of the forum is being held on February 15 and 16, 2023, with all members of the World Water Council's Board of Governors, which total 56, in attendance.

Moreover, the premiere meeting is also scheduled to be joined by 1,400 participants.

The kick-off meeting is expected to proceed well and mobilize everyone. The goal is to mobilize all stakeholders in the water sector to care more about water management problems.
