Malang, East Java (ANTARA) - Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform Minister Abdullah Azwar Anas has asked civil servants to improve their work performance, saying this would have a tangible impact on people.

Speaking at a meeting with state civil apparatuses of Malang district government here Friday, he called on the civil servants to be able to offer concrete benefits to people from some established programs they do.

"So what we urge for earlier is for the performance of our bureaucracy to be improved so that the magnitude of its impacts are more tangible for the people," he added.

Anas said that President Joko Widodo, in his directives, has called for a straightforward bureaucratic process: one that does not trouble people. Hence, the government has set work performance targets for state civil apparatus to get good results for everyone.

To get the desired work performance, the government has prepared the Thematic Bureaucracy Reform, he informed. There are some things that are listed in that framework, like the decline in the poverty rate and growth in investment.

"If the digital (bureaucracy) works, then services will be quicker, better, cheaper, and more accountable," the minister affirmed.

He also said that the government is encouraging domestic product purchases by promoting the use of local e-catalogues. This is expected to raise domestic product development, ensure transparency, and help absorb funds better.

According to the head of Malang district, M. Sanusi, the Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform Ministry has paid a lot of attention to the progress of regional bureaucracy, including in Malang, all along.

The Malang administration is committed to pursuing the Bureaucracy Reform Program as a means to achieve a clean and transparent bureaucracy, which is capable of providing high-quality services to the people.

“The Malang government is always committed to creating smart, professional public servants through (the adoption of) better work culture," he added.
