Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Nadiem Anwar Makarim stated that 90 thousand university students participated in the Kampus Mengajar program by teaching in over 20 thousand primary and secondary schools.

The upcoming Kampus Mengajar (Teaching Campus) program, its fifth iteration since 2020, will involve 21,045 university students, who teach at 5,093 schools nationwide, the minister noted.

"I think, students, who participated in the Kampus Mengajar program, dare to leave their comfort zone to contribute (to the nation). That is amazing," Makarim stated here, Saturday.

The minister said that the program had received widespread acclaim from school principals, and the satisfactory rate to the previous iteration of the program reached 93.6 percent, out of 2,668 principals surveyed.

The 93.6-percent school principals' satisfaction rate could be divided into 47.9 percent of respondents, who are "satisfied," and 45.7 percent of respondents, who are "very satisfied," he noted.

Meanwhile, according to the same survey, 79.4 percent of respondents said that student teachers hugely contributed to developing the school pupils' literacy and numeral capabilities, while 18.2 percent commended the participants' keenness to cooperate and coordinate with school teachers.

The positive feedback recorded from the program's earlier iterations will serve as a good capital for participants embarking on the fifth Kampus Mengajar program from February 20 to June 9, 2023.

As recognition of contributions made and new experiences gained in the teaching program, participating students are eligible for up to 20 course credits, he remarked.

"The fifth iteration of the Kampus Mengajar program is expected to maintain positive trends and continue giving positive effects for the improvement of Indonesia's education quality at the basic education level," Makarim remarked.
