"Five of these public facilities are schools in Jakarta's five regions," Head of the Jakarta Manpower, Transmigration, and Energy Office Andri Yansyah noted here Wednesday.
Yansyah remarked that 10 schools will utilize solar energy, with two schools each in West Jakarta, Central Jakarta, North Jakarta, East Jakarta, and South Jakarta.
Solar panels in these schools are estimated to produce electricity, with a capacity of around 20 kilowatts per hour.
In addition to schools, 21 other public facilities will use solar energy.
These comprise 12 public health centers (puskesmas), three sub-district offices, three sports arenas, and three regional apparatus work unit buildings, with a total capacity reaching 55 kilowatts per hour.
The use of solar energy in 2023 is a form of expansion of the Jakarta provincial government's support for eco-friendly energy.
Yansyah remarked that during the 2010-2019 period, the Jakarta provincial government had already conduct solar energy development at 10 locations, including in schools, Jakarta City Hall's Blok G, and the Jakarta Fire Mitigation and Rescue Office Building.
In 2019, solar panels were constructed in 92 schools, and thereafter in 2021, they were installed at four locations in conjunction with the school renovation undertaken by the Jakarta Education Office.
Meanwhile, in 2022, solar panels were installed at 30 locations, with 13 of them located in schools.
To this day, the Jakarta provincial government has already conducted solar energy installations of 3.2-megawatt capacity at 136 locations.
Meanwhile, according to data from state-owned enterprise Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) gathered by Jakarta Statistics Indonesia (BPS), the number of electric consumers in 2021 had reached 4.9 million.
This figure is an increase as compared to 4.7 million recorded in 2020.
